City Lights Bookstore于1953年在Columbus和Broadway一栋三角形建筑内开业,由Lawrence Ferlinghetti和Peter D. Martin创办,是全美首家全平装书书店。Ferlinghetti于1956年出版了Allen Ginsberg的Howl;1957年的淫秽罪审判以他被判无罪告终,并为文学出版确立了第一修正案的先例。
书店
三层楼的书籍摆满了每一处空间。楼上的Poetry Room是Ferlinghetti编辑和出版Beat作家作品的地方,书架之间夹着手写的员工推荐。地下室收藏着Beat文学作品,包括初版书籍,墙上挂着Kerouac、Ginsberg及其圈内人士的照片。楼上定期举办朗读会和新书发布活动。Vesuvio Cafe就在隔壁,隔着Jack Kerouac Alley,是Beat作家们常去的同一间酒吧;City Lights于2001年被列为San Francisco地标。
交通方式
书店位于North Beach的Columbus和Broadway交叉口,附近有8、12、30路公交线路以及Powell-Mason缆车。
