What to expect

The communal baths include hot and cold pools, a steam room, and a dry sauna. Spa treatments (massage, facials, body scrubs) are available by appointment. The bathing area is silent: no phones, no conversation.

The communal baths are gendered by day. All-gender on Monday and Tuesday (bathing suits required). Men on Thursday and Saturday. Women on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Visiting

Located at 1750 Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94115, in the Japan Center directly behind the AMC Kabuki 8 Theater. Hours are Monday 2pm to 8pm (bathing only) and Tuesday through Sunday 10am to 9:30pm. The daily bath rate is $49, or $20 with a service. Baths are reservation only, in 2.5-hour increments; book at 415.922.6000.

Getting there

On Geary Boulevard in Japantown. The 38-Geary bus stops directly in front. Street parking is available on side streets, and the Japan Center garage is nearby.
