Gary FrankはHaught Streetに1976年10月にThe Booksmithをオープンしました。現在のオーナーであるChristin EvansとPraveen Madanは2007年に彼から店舗を買収しました。San Franciscoは2016年10月にBooksmith Legacy Business認定を付与しました。
