Liguria Bakery sits at 1700 Stockton Street, on the corner of Filbert across from Washington Square. The Soracco family opened it in 1911 and the third and fourth generations still run it, baking in the original brick oven.
The bakery sells focaccia and nothing else. Flavors include plain rosemary garlic, tomato sauce (“pizza”), onion, olive, and raisin, cut to order and wrapped in butcher paper with string. Cash only.
Hours are roughly 7am to noon, Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday, and they close earlier whenever the day’s batch sells out. If the basket in the window is empty, they’re done. Buy here before you climb Telegraph Hill.
