About The Castro
The Castro 在整個19世紀曾是一片名為Eureka Valley的農地。Castro Street 是以José Castro命名，他是墨西哥時期Alta California的一位總督。Market Street Cable Railway於1887年抵達這片谷地，並帶動了一波住宅興建熱潮，至今仍矗立著當時建成的維多利亞式建築。數十年來，這裡一直是勞工階層社區，居民多為斯堪地那維亞裔與愛爾蘭裔。由Timothy Pflueger設計的Castro Theatre於1922年在Castro Street開幕。
