A 1922 movie palace on Castro Street, designed by Timothy Pflueger and protected as a San Francisco landmark. The vertical neon blade sign and the ornate plaster ceiling are what people stop to photograph from the sidewalk.
The theatre returned in February 2026 after a two-year, $41 million restoration, and Another Planet Entertainment programs it now. The orchestra floor moves, so the room seats around 1,115 for a film and holds around 1,385 standing for a concert. A digital symphonic organ was installed in March. The work also uncovered a proscenium arch with Egyptian scrollwork that had been covered over since at least the 1960s.
Programming runs across repertory film, concerts, comedy and festivals, including the San Francisco International Film Festival.
