Juneteenth 2026 in San Francisco: Parade Route, Festivals, and Holiday Transit

San Francisco observes Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, 2026. The federal and city holiday anchors a weekend of free public events, and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has published transit and parking changes that run from Thursday, June 18 through Wednesday, June 24. Here is what is happening and how to get around.

Muni and parking on Friday, June 19

Muni runs a Sunday service schedule on Friday, June 19, according to the SFMTA. Service is less frequent than a normal weekday, so check the schedule for your specific line before you travel.

Parking enforcement is mixed on the holiday. The SFMTA says parking meters are enforced citywide, regardless of cap color, along with passenger and general loading zones, nightly street sweeping, and safety violations such as blocked hydrants, crosswalks, and bike lanes. Residential parking permit zones, general time limits, weekday daytime street sweeping, commuter shuttle towaway zones, and unmetered yellow and green zones are not enforced that day.

The Juneteenth Parade on Market Street, Saturday, June 20

The Juneteenth Parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, from the assembly area at 2nd and Market streets and proceeds east along Market Street to Embarcadero Plaza. The SFMTA estimates the parade finishes around 2 p.m., followed by a festival in Embarcadero Plaza and a car show in Harry Bridges Plaza.

Organizers Livable City and Burge LLC Production list the parade and downtown block party running from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., free to attend with an RSVP. This is the fourth year for the citywide parade.

For street closures, 2nd Street between Market and Howard streets is closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Market Street between 2nd and Steuart streets is closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The SFMTA lists the following Muni routes as affected: 2 Sutter, 5 Fulton, 7 Haight-Noriega, 9 San Bruno, 12 Folsom-Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 15 Bayview-Hunters Point Express, 38 Geary, 38R Geary Rapid, and the F Market & Wharves.

Bayview Juneteenth and Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21

The annual Bayview Juneteenth celebration runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at Gilman Park, which is also Father’s Day this year. Organizer details are posted at sf-juneteenth.com. The SFMTA says Gilman Avenue between Bill Walsh Way and Hawes Street, Bill Walsh Way between Gilman and Ingerson avenues, and Ingerson Avenue between Bill Walsh Way and Gilroy Street close from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the 29 Sunset is rerouted.

World Cup watch parties and late-night Muni

The FIFA World Cup runs through July 19, and San Francisco has free public watch parties around the city. The official San Francisco fan zone is at Pier 39, with additional viewing at SPARK Social SF in Mission Bay and at Thrive City next to Chase Center. All official watch parties are free and open to the public.

Several tournament matches in Santa Clara have evening start times, including one on Friday, June 19. For those late matches, the SFMTA is running extra late-night Muni shuttle service between Union Square, SoMa, BART, and the Caltrain station at 4th and King, with stops along the 45 Union/Stockton line. On Friday, June 19, that service runs from about 3:15 to 6:15 p.m. before the match and 11:45 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. afterward.
