Landline Bus From Santa Rosa to Inside SFO Starts November 17, With Security and Bag Check Done in Sonoma

Starting November 17, 2026, travelers flying out of San Francisco International Airport can check their bags and clear TSA screening at Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, then ride a coach straight into SFO’s secure area. The Landline Company is running eight round trips a day between the two airports, according to its booking page for the route. A one-way ticket costs $55, and children 15 and under ride free.

The service is only for passengers connecting to flights on five airlines: Alaska, American, Hawaiian, JetBlue and United. You book your SFO flight first, then reserve a Landline seat.

How It Works Going to SFO

At Sonoma County Airport (2290 Airport Blvd., Santa Rosa), the Landline counter is inside the terminal. Bag drop opens 60 minutes before departure, and Landline asks passengers to arrive at least 15 minutes before the coach leaves. You check in, drop bags, and go through TSA screening there with your airline boarding pass and a REAL ID or other TSA-approved ID. Checked bags are tagged through to your final destination.

The coach makes no stops between the two airports and drops passengers inside SFO, already past security, so you walk to your gate without a second screening. SFist and The Points Guy report the drop-off point is Gate A3 in the International Terminal. The Points Guy notes that A3 sits closer to the Terminal 1 airlines than to United’s gates in Terminal 3, and that Landline is working with SFO on a more central gate.

The scheduled trip takes a little over two hours. Departures from Santa Rosa, per Landline’s published timetable, are at 5:00, 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., and 10:50 a.m., 1:10, 3:00, 5:30 and 7:45 p.m., with SFO arrivals between 7:15 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.

How It Works Coming Home

The return trip runs the other way without the security step. You collect checked bags at SFO baggage claim, then board the coach at the curbside Airporter stop outside your arrival terminal; the coach stops at every terminal. Landline asks passengers to be there 10 minutes before departure and to show proof of same-day travel, such as the boarding pass from the arriving flight. Coaches leave SFO from about 8:00 a.m. to 10:55 p.m., and the last one reaches Santa Rosa at 12:40 a.m.

The Coach

Landline’s 36-seat coaches have leather seats with extra legroom, Starlink Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, a restroom and accessible seating. Landline’s booking page says it does not refund fares for late arrivals.

Why It Matters for SFO Travelers

The route reconnects Sonoma County with SFO for people who fly United, Alaska and the other partner airlines. According to The Points Guy, the last SFO-linked service from Sonoma County Airport ended in 2022. Landline CEO David Sunde told the publication the company succeeds “when we convince people not to drive themselves,” and that it is looking at Monterey and Stockton as possible next routes into SFO, followed by Modesto and Sacramento.

SFist, citing the North Bay Business Journal, reports that Landline pays the airport fees under its agreement with Sonoma County and the county is not subsidizing the service. Groome Transportation’s existing shuttle between Santa Rosa and SFO, which makes several stops and has no advance security screening, continues to run.

The route also works for visitors arriving at SFO on a partner airline who are headed to Santa Rosa and Sonoma County. SFGuide’s Wine Country small-group day trip covers the region from San Francisco. For other SFO changes this fall, see our report on the Runway 1R reopening.
