The Verdict
"A half-acre redwood grove at the base of the Transamerica Pyramid. It's free too. "
What you need to know
Transamerica Redwood Park is a half-acre grove of redwood trees and a small plaza at the base of the Transamerica Pyramid. The trees were transplanted from the Santa Cruz Mountains when the tower was built in the early 1970s.
What to Expect
Several dozen redwoods, brick walkways, benches, and a fountain. The park reopened to the public in 2024 after the Pyramid’s multi-year renovation, with new seating and a kiosk. It takes a few minutes to walk through and is a quiet spot for a weekday lunch downtown.
Visiting
Free. The grove sits on the Washington and Clay Street side of the Pyramid block. Hours are daytime; confirm current hours before a special trip.
Getting There
Montgomery Station (BART and Muni Metro) is a few blocks south on Market Street. The 1 California stops two blocks uphill, and the 12 Folsom-Pacific runs nearby on Pacific and Sansome.
