American Conservatory Theater (ACT)

The Geary Theater on Geary Street has been ACT’s main stage since 1967. The 1909 Beaux-Arts building was rebuilt after 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake damage and reopened in 1996. ACT, founded in 1965, runs a full season of plays here, plus the conservatory program that has trained Annette Bening, Denzel Washington, and Winona Ryder. Roughly 1,000 seats across orchestra and two balconies.
