San Francisco Opera was founded in 1923 and is the second-largest opera company in North America. It performs at the 3,128-seat War Memorial Opera House on Van Ness Avenue, the same building since 1932. Seasons run September through December and June through July. Matthew Shilvock is the general director; Eun Sun Kim is the music director.
